1. Check all water line conditions and faucets for leaks.
2. Shower instead of taking a tub bath. Keep the shower to a minimum.
3. Don't let water run while washing hands and brushing teeth.
4. Check commodes for leaks by adding food coloring to the tank.
5. Never run the dishwasher or washing machine without a full load.
6. Keep a container of drinking water in the refrigerator.
7. Do not use the toilet to dispose of cleaning tissues, cigarette butts or other trash.
8. When purchasing new appliances, check water requirements of various models and brands.
9. Water the lawn early in the morning during the hot months to reduce evaporation.
10. Use a sprinkler that produces drops of water rather than a fine mist, which can easily be blown away in the wind.
11. Don't over water.
12. Learn to landscape your yard with types of plants that do not require large amounts of water.
13. Consider decorating some areas of the yard with rocks, gravel, wood chips or other materials that do not require water.
14. When washing your car, use a bucket of soapy water and use the hose to rinse it.
15. Use a broom rather than a hose to clean the driveway, patio, sidewalk, or street.
16. Replace your toilet with a low-flow toilet.
17. Cover hot tubs and pools to reduce evaporation or use a recycling system.

19. Soak your pots and pans after eating instead of letting the water run while your doing it.
20. Don't allow sprinklers to water your street, driveway or sidewalk. Position them so water lands on the lawn and shrubs and not on paved areas.
21. Install irrigation devices that are the most water efficient for each use. Micro and drip Irrigation and soaker hoses are examples of water efficient irrigation methods.
22. Avoid over fertilizing your lawn. Applying fertilizer increases your lawns need for water. To have the best of both worlds, apply fertilizers, which contain slow-release, water insoluble forms of nitrogen.
23. Avoid purchasing recreational water toys that require a constant stream of water.
24. Avoid installing ornamental water features ( such as fountains ) unless they use recycled water.
25. Consider using a commercial car wash that recycles water. If you wash your own car, park on the grass and use the hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle.
26. Forget about watering streets, sidewalks, or driveways.
27. Never pour water down the drain when there may be another use for it. Use water you may discard to water indoor plants or garden.
28. Place a glass jar in your toilet tank ( let it fill with water. ) This reduces the amount of water you use per flush.
29. Take a shorter shower. Replace your showerhead with an ultra-low-flow showerhead. Some units are available that allow you to cut off the flow without adjusting the water temperature knobs.
30. In the shower, turn water on to get wet; turn off to lather up; then turn the water back on to rinse off. Repeat when washing your hair.
31. Think twice about installing a water-to-air heat pump or air-conditioning system. Newer air-to-air models are just as efficient and do not waste water.
32. Check all hoses, connectors, and spigots regularly.
33. Try to do one thing each day that will result in saving water.
