RE: BOIL WATER ADVISORIES

CUSTOMERS IN THREE SEPARATE AREAS ARE BEING ADVISED THAT THEY SHOULD BOIL ANY WATER TO BE CONSUMED DUE TO A LOSS OF WATER PRESSURE TODAY. THE FOLLOWING AREAS ARE AFFECTED:

     PLATT AVE AND BOTH SIDES OF ORISKANY STREET, WEST (BETWEEN PLATT AND FLOYD STREETS), UTICA;

     ELIZABETH STREET (EAST OF GENESEE TO BURNETT STREET), UTICA;

CROSS STREET, FROM CAMPBELL AVE SOUTH TO AND INCLUDING #107, YORKVILLE; AND

ANY HOMES NEAR THE ABOVE AREAS AND WERE ALSO WITHOUT WATER ON FRIDAY SHOULD ALSO BOIL THEIR WATER.

THE NEW YORK STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT SETS DRINKING WATER STANDARDS AND HAS DETERMINED THAT LOSS OF PRESSURE IS A POTENTAILLY SERIOUS HEALTH CONCERN. HARMFUL BACTERIA MAY ENTER THE DRINKING WATER AND CONTAMINATE THE WATER WITH 0RGANISMS THAT CAN CAUSE DISEASE. DISEASE SYMPTOMS MAY INCLUDE DIARRHEA, CRAMPS, NAUSEA, POSSIBLE JAUNDICE, AND ASSOCIATED HEADACHES AND FATIGUE. THESE SYMPTOMS, HOWEVER, ARE NOT JUST ASSOCIATED WITH DISEASE CAUSING ORGANISMS IN DRINKING WATER, BUT MAY ALSO BE CAUSED BY A NUMBER OF FACTORS OTHER THAN CONTAMINATED DRINKING WATER.

CUSTOMERS IN THE AFFECTED AREAS ARE ADVISED TO BOIL THEIR WATER FOR AT LEAST TWO MINUTES BEFORE USING IT FOR DRINKING OR COOKING. CUSTOMERS ARE ALSO ADVISED AGAINST USING ANY WATER THAT APPEARS CLOUDY OR DISCOLORED, ESPECIALLY HOT WATER, SINCE SUCH USE WILL DRAW DISCOLORED WATER INTO THEIR HOT WATER TANK AND REQUIRE CUTOMERS TO FLUSH THEIR HOT WATER TANK ONCE CLEAR WATER BECOMES AVAILABLE. CUSTOMERS SHOULD ALSO AVOID WASHING CLOTHES IN DISCOLORED WATER SINCE IT MAY CONTAIN SEDIMENTS THAT COULD PERMANENTLY STAIN THEIR LAUNDRY.

-       BACTERIOLOGICAL SAMPLES WILL BE TAKEN IN THE AFFECTED

AREAS. IF BACTERIOLOGICAL TEST RESULTS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS INDICATES THAT THE WATER SUPPLY IS NOT CONTAMINATED, THE WATER AUTHORITY WILL LIFT THIS BOIL WATER ADVISORY FORF THE RESPECTIVE AREA. THESE DECISIONS WILL PROBABLY NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL AT LEAST 9:00 AM ON MONDAY, JULY 14, 2008.

QUESTIONS CONCERNING THIS NOTICE MAY BE DIRECTED TO THE WATER AUTHORITY AT 792-0301.
