MVWA to Flush Water Mains in the Town of New Hartford
Wednesday, June 20, 2007, 3:00 PM: The Mohawk Valley Water Authority will be flushing water mains along several roads and streets in the Town of New Hartford on Thursday, June 21st between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
The specific water mains affected are west of Valley View Road and north of Higby Road; and include Ironwood Road, Juniper Lane, Viburnum Place, Water Beech Place, Silver Birch Court and Thistle Court. Attached is a map showing the affected area.
Residents of this area may experience discolored water coming from their taps if they use water during the time the MVWA crew is flushing fire hydrants. During the hours listed, we advise the affected residents NOT to consume the discolored water, do laundry nor use the hot water as this will pull sediments into the hot water heater.
Donald Weimer, the Authority’s Principal Engineer, says there will be no need for customers to boil their water following flushing of the mains. Customers are advised to store water for cooking and consumption BEFORE flushing operations begin. The Water Authority will clear all discolored water from the water mains before 3:00 P.M. If any customer notices discolored water coming from the cold water tap after 3:00 P.M., he/she should run their cold water until it becomes clear. That process should take less than five minutes.
The Mohawk Valley Water Authority is a regional agency that provides drinking water to approximately 126,000 customers throughout 18 municipalities in Oneida and Herkimer Counties. Contact the MVWA at 792-0301.
